Special Lecture for Core Capacity Improvement: “Cost for Unification: What Is the Right Approach?”
 
    On Dec 26th, the National Assembly Budget Office held its fourth Special Lecture for Core Capacity Reinforcement for 2013, under the theme of “Cost for Unification: What is the right approach?” The special lecture was designed with the objectives of understanding the impact of the unification of the Korean peninsula on the estimation of cost-benefits and on fiscal sustainability and of contemplating the preceding research on the cost/benefit estimation items and for estimation methodologies. The presenter of the special lecture, Dr. Bae Jong Ryul (Korea Exim Bank), explained the current environment in which the cost of unification is calculated and the various opinions on the existing unification cost calculation methods. The panelists, Dr. Jung Hyung Gon (Korea Institute for International Economic Policy) and Dr. Choi Jun Wook (Korea Institute of Public Finance), had heated discussions on the cost of unification and its calculation methodologies.
