The National Assembly Budget Office held the first meeting of the 10th Budget Policy Advisory Committee on Friday, October 20, at 10 am. The committee was composed of 19 experts in the fields of finance, taxation, and economics, as well as science and technology, environment and energy, and public administration. For this first meeting, 13 members were in attendance.
At the meeting, the newly appointed members of the 10th Advisory Committee were introduced, and Professor Deokro Lee of the Department of Public Administration at Sejong University was elected as the chairperson. Subsequently, the meeting proceeded to solicit suggestions from the members on the topic of “Evaluation of the Past 20 Years of NABO and Charting the Course Ahead.”
The members assessed that over the past two decades since its inception, NABO has elevated its stature by meticulously analyzing budgets and estimating bill costs. They emphasized the importance of improving the accuracy of fiscal projections and tax revenue forecasts, as well as developing, building, and applying a distinctive analytical model for policy impact analysis. Additionally, they stressed the need for formulating cutting-edge research initiatives to guide sustainable policy directions, addressing challenges such as demographic shifts and a declining birthrate. Furthermore, they highlighted the necessity of devising strategies to attract and retain top-tier talent in the long term.
"As NABO marks its 20th anniversary, I believe it is a pivotal moment to prepare for a qualitative leap forward, leveraging the expertise we have accumulated over the past two decades," noted Chief Euysup Cho. He further stated, "I am committed to actively incorporating the practical guidance and advice from our advisors into NABO’s operations."
