Cost estimate of the Special Bill on Low Birth Rate

    In February 2010, the National Assembly of Korea established a task force team with the National Assembly Secretariat, the National Assembly Budget Office (NABO), and the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) to solve the low birth rate issue. This team examined and carried out research on 25 laws, 80 Central government policies and 577 local government policies in order to enact the Special Bill on Low Birth Rate.

    This report contains the final estimates for the costs of the Special Bill on Low Birth Rates. The main financial items are as follows: infertility support, child allow-ance, parenting support, mandatory installation of workplace child-care facilities and etc. according to estimation, we need an extra 11 trillion Korean Won in 2011, and a total of 56 trillion Korean Won for the next five years.
